Welcome to my blog where I share creative projects, recipes and advice on things to see and do while visiting my beautiful area I call home.
A little bit about me. My name is Jeanette. I am the owner, manager, reservation specialist, gardener, designer, maintenance person, head housekeeper, advertising specialist and laundry nightmare person at Hilltop Cabins and Motel.
I love to garden, build things and bake. I am a Jack of all trades and master of none. I love learning new things and gaining experience through my mistakes. When you are a guest here with me you can witness some of my mistakes and successes. I have installed almost all of the flooring in the cabins and motel rooms, every tile in the kitchens and baths, and a wide array of furniture, chairs, sofas, night stands, headboards, etc.
Staying at a small Inn such as mine is a unique experience. I have a plaque in my office that jokes about office hours, but comes pretty close to my actual life. You are guaranteed to see me in the office almost every morning during my breakfast hours. I love this time of the day, groggy eyed guests in slippers and Jammie’s coming in for coffee and staying for my baked goods or to learn more about our area. At 10:00 AM I head out to clean cabins, I have estimated that over the last 15 years I have cleaned 18,000 toilets! And I like them clean. In the afternoons I try to catch up on office work, yard work and laundry. Mounds and mounds of laundry. “Mount Sheet” as I affectionately refer to it as, lol. But I am proud to say that all 4 of my kids can fold a perfect fitted sheet! Ahhhh, check in time, lol. Trying to set office hours here is like trying to keep a toddler in one spot. I do a lot of running back and forth and dreaming of a better system, but for now it works.
I try my hardest to insure that everyone has an amazing experience while they are here. I know my style of decorating and hand crafting isn’t for everyone, but it is a part of me. I love every nail, flower, and piece of wood that comes together to create an up north experience that you can’t get anywhere else. I sometimes have dirt on my knees and paint on my nose, that’s who I am and that’s part of Hilltop. I am not the Hilton and have no desire to be. Kick back and breathe with me, the air is crisp, the water is clean and life is really really good.
